Linell is a senior in the CBS Honors Program and is majoring in Biology. She is a National Ski Patroller, a Certified Nursing Assistant, a member of the CBS student board and a CBS Dean’s Scholar. Linell has volunteered at Fairview Hospital, had a research internship at Regions Hospital doing clinical research in the Emergency Department, and is doing bone marrow research in Dr. Taylor’s heart lab. In her spare time she enjoys skiing (on snow and water), snowboarding, working out, reading and cheering on the Gophers at sporting events.
Jaime Rich, VP of Communications
Jamie is a senior in CBS, majoring in Biology. She currently works as a TA for the Biology 2003 foundations course. Jamie is also a student leader for Biology Colloquium, as well as the activities coordinator for the course. Jamie is also a volunteer at the University of Minnesota, Fairview. In her free time, Jamie loves to play tennis, golf, and just be outside. As VP of Communications, she helps maintain an effective system of communication and organization amongst members.
BJ Valente, VP of Experiential Learning
BJ is a senior in the CLA honors program. He is studying Chemistry and Spanish with a minor in Biochemistry. He studied abroad this past Spring in Seville, Spain. BJ is a volunteer in the Emergency Department at Hennepin County Medical Center as well as a certified EMT. As a member of Dr. Natalia Tretyakova´s research group, BJ studies DNA-protein crosslinks. BJ is an avid fan of reading Spanish literature, going to local music shows, and racquetball.
Alyssa Morris, VP of Finance
Alyssa is a sophomore in CBS majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Child Psychology. Aside from her membership with MML, Alyssa is a member of the CBS Student Board and has been doing research in a Child Psychology Lab since the spring of 2010. Alyssa enjoys volunteering at hospitals and planning for events such as Dance Your Heart Out, a dance marathon benefiting children affected by AIDS. In her free time, Alyssa likes to run, swim, and watch Gopher sporting events. Alyssa is excited for her new role as Vice President of Finance for Minnesota Medical Leaders.
Erin Theisen, VP of Member Development
Erin is a senior majoring in Physiology and Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development, with a minor in Chemistry. Outside of class she can be found conducting research on surfcant proteins with Dr. Caroline George, working as a TA for Biochemistry 3021 or Biology 1009, and volunteering through Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Ronald McDonald House. In her spare time she enjoys going out for coffee, playing piano, reading, and watching the Green Bay Packers.
Maddy Garner, VP of Public Relations
Maddy is a sophomore in CBS majoring in Neuroscience. Maddy has lots of experience with Public Relations. She has put together several successful advertising campaigns and fund raising events for local charity volleyball tournaments with her sister. She also served as the Secretary for her residence hall's community council. She loves to watch sports, especially Gopher Hockey and Football. Maddy also enjoys playing soccer, running, reading, and swing dancing.
Abdisamad Ibrahim, VP of Recruitment
Abdisamad is a senior in the CBS Honors Program. He is majoring in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and minoring in English. Abdisamad volunteers at United Hospital in Saint Paul in the Emergency Department and Patient Discharge Services. He is also a North Star STEM alliance scholar and fellow. Abdisamad also conducts research on ecdysone synthesis at Dr. O'Connors Lab and efficienty of cell-cell contactsin Dr. Shimizu's Lab. He is also the founder and President of the GCD Club. When he is not studying, he likes to play soccer and spend time with friends and families. As the VP of Recruitment, he will coordinate the application and review process, as well as recruit new members to MML.
Lynn Wang, VP of International Education
Lynn is a junior in the CBS Honors Program majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Music. Outside of class, she volunteers at Fairview Hospital, works as a research assistant in a brain development lab, and tutors middle school students through Breakthrough Saint Paul. After attending the mission trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua in 2009, Lynn looks forward to planning an exciting trip for Summer 2011!
Nora Ali, Webmaster
Nora is a sophomore in CBS, majoring in Biochemistry. In addition to MML, Nora is involved in Circle of Giving and volunteers at HCMC Hospital. She was also a Nature of Life Associate Peer Mentor this past summer and is currently a Community Advisor in Bailey Hall. Ken Dodd, Director of Medical School Relations
Ken graduated summa cum laude in 2008 with a B.S. in Neuroscience and Physiology, and is now in his second year at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Not only did Ken serve as President of MML, but he was also a founding member. Ken was recognized as an outstanding member of the University community, receiving several distinguished awards, such as the Minnesota Alumni Association Student Leadership Award. Ken's interest in medicine is wide-ranging, but is considering a career in emergency medicine or primary care and pursuing a Masters in Public Health.
Kathryn Hanna, PhD, Faculty Advisor
Dr. Hanna is an associate professor, director of the Biology Colloquium program, and faculty advisor to several biology-related groups on campus.
Clifford Steer, MD, Faculty Advisor
Dr. Steer received his B.A. in Physiology and Chemistry and M.D. at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. Dr. Steer accepted a Hepatology Fellowship at the NIH in the Section on Diseases of the Liver and remained on staff at the NIH as an Expert in his field for an additional 10 years. In 1989, Dr. Steer joined the University of Minnesota as a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Genetics and Cell Development.
