I have never heard of MML. What is it?
Minnesota Medical Leaders (MML) is a non-profit pre-medical campus life organization at the University of Minnesota. Our organization is made up primarily of pre-medical students (and some medical school students) who are dedicated to becoming leaders in health care.

I am not sure if I want to go into medicine, but I am thinking about it. Should I apply to MML?
MML is specifically geared towards students who know they are going to be applying to medical school. There are plenty of helpful student groups that can help you decide whether or not medicine is for you, such as AED or Pre-Med AMSA. The Health Careers Center can also help you explore a career in medicine. However, if you do decide that you will be applying to medical school, we encourage you to apply for MML.

Why is there an application for membership?
MML isn't like most pre-medical student groups. We require all members to actively participate the group (this includes attending all meetings, planning and attending events, volunteering etc). We also want students who are highly motivated and dedicated to making a difference on campus, in the community, and abroad.

When is the application deadline?
The application is currently closed. Please check back in Late August or September for the 2010-2011 application. If you have any questions regarding the application process or the next application deadline, please contact Abdisamad Ibrahim at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. I submitted an application to MML, when will I find out if I was accepted?
Applications are reviewed applications and new members are notified of acceptance within 2 weeks of the application deadline.

Is there a membership fee for MML?
There is a one-time $25 fee due your first semester of membership. This fee includes your MML t-shirt and helps fund MML meetings and events.

What does MML do?
A variety of things! Firstly, we help prepare students to apply to medical school with MCAT prep discounts, mock AMCAS applications, mock interviews, mentoring, and an experiential learning database. Secondly, we work to better our community through awareness events, volunteering, and fundraising. Each year we embark on an international medical mission trip where we work in hospitals and clinics to provide primary care, education, advocacy and outreach -- as well as donating thousands of dollars worth of essential everyday medical supplies.

What are the requirements and benefits of membership?
Visit this page to read more about what is expected of MML members and how you will benefit from membership.

Can I go on MML's annual medical mission trips?
We first open our mission trips to MML to ensure that all members have an opportunity to participate. However, we will open up our trips to other pre-health students if we have extra spots. As long as you meet all of the requirements (such as language proficiency, for example), you are welcome to join us on our medical mission trips!

I would like to donate to MML's fundraising efforts. How can I do that?

Thank you for your generosity! Click here to get more information regarding donations to MML.

If I donate to MML, where does my money go?
Through our fundraising efforts, MML members raised over $1,500 to purchase supplies which were donated to field clinics in Costa Rica and Panama. By donating to MML, you will be helping to purchase essential supplies (such as medications, vitamins, gloves, bandages, etc) that are in high demand. All donations are tax-deductible through the University of Minnesota Foundation. Click here to get more information about donating.
