2009-2010 Officers

   

Rachel Weigert, President

Rachel is a Biology major with a Spanish Studies minor who plans to graduate in May of 2010, and hopes to matriculate in medical school that Fall. Rachel works and volunteers at Hennepin County Medical Center in downtown Minneapolis, and her experiences there have helped her foster an interest in pediatric urban medicine. As President of MML, Rachel hopes to make new connections between community organizations both locally and abroad, all while giving quality clinical experiences to group members.

Jenny Rader, Communications

Jenny is a senior majoring in Biology and Physiology with an Art minor. She currently conducts research on Type I Diabetes in the Firpo lab as well as volunteers for Fairview Lakes Hospice.  Jenny is also a member of the CBS Student Board and TA for Biochem 3021. Her medical aspirations currently focus on Orthopedic Surgery or Sports Medicine with intent to foster a base of experiences in healthcare abroad. In her free time, Jenny enjoys reading, sports, training for a triathlon, cooking anything and everything, as well as painting and drawing. As VP of Communications, she helps maintain an effective system of communication and organization amongst members.

Dan Murphy, Experiential Learning

Dan is a junior chemistry major and biology minor in the Institute of Technology. He enjoys participating in research and volunteering. Dan also enjoys Gopher football, basketball, and Twins baseball.
 

Katherine Holten, Finance

Katherine is a sophomore in the Carlson School of Management Honors Program pursuing a major in Finance (and possibly a double major with Biology). She works as an assistant to Dr. Vallera in the Masonic Cancer Research Center and voluteers at Fairview in the Physical Therapy department. When Katherine has free time, she loves to run, play softball, attend gopher sporting events, and of course spend time with friends and family.

Kristin Roensch, Member Development

Kristin is a Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development major and a Spanish minor. She is currently involved in a research project studying miRNA’s role in inducing an anti-tumor response in dendritic cells. In her free time, she enjoys reading for fun, watching movies, hiking, biking, and training for a half-marathon. She is interested in Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics, and General Surgery.

Michelle Holman, Public Relations

Michelle is a senior studying biochemistry and physiology with a Spanish minor. This summer, she spent 6 weeks studying healthcare and disease in Copenhagen and 2 weeks volunteering in Costa Rica/Nicaragua. Michelle enjoys being involved with CBS as an ambassador, member of the Student Board, and Nature of Life Peer Mentor. She's also involved with Admissions Ambassadors and intramural sports. Michelle TAs for Physical Biochemistry and assists in collecting data for the CBS undergraduate curriculum review. Michelle loves to take pictures, watch sports and hang out with friends.  

Allie Ellingson, Recruitment

Allie is a CBS senior studying Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and French Studies. She works at the Schulze Diabetes Institute as an administrative assistant and also does research on acute myeloid leukemia. She is the Vice President of CBS Ambassadors and an active member of the Visual Arts Committee. This year, Allie will also be coordinator for Biology Colloquium. As the VP of Recruitment, she will coordinate the application and review process, as well as recruit new members to MML. Allie enjoys playing tennis, reading, playing the piano, and spending time with family and friends.

Jamie Rich, International Education

Jamie is a junior in CBS, majoring in biology. She currently works as a TA for the Biology 2003 foundations course. Jamie is also a student leader for Biology Colloquium, as well as the activities coordinator for the course. Jamie is also beginning her volunteer work at the University of Minnesota-Fairview. In her free time, Jamie loves to play tennis, golf, and just be outside. As the VP of international education, she hopes to plan an awesome mission trip for the summer of 2010.

Erin Broberg, Webmaster

Erin graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in Biology, Society, and the Environment and Spanish Studies. Erin is currently working full-time at a local gastroenterology practice and taking a year off before applying to medical school. Erin is interested in obstetrics and emergency medicine, as well as global health and health disparities.

Ken Dodd, Director of Medical School Relations

Ken graduated summa cum laude in 2008 with a B.S. in Neuroscience and Physiology, and is now in his second year at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Not only did Ken serve as President of MML, but he was also a founding member. Ken was recognized as an outstanding member of the University community, receiving several distinguished awards, such as the Minnesota Alumni Association Student Leadership Award. Ken's interest in medicine is wide-ranging, but is considering a career in emergency medicine or primary care and pursuing a Masters in Public Health

Kathryn Hanna, PhD, Faculty Advisor

Dr. Hanna is an associate professor, director of the Biology Colloquium program, and faculty advisor to several biology-related groups on campus.

Clifford Steer, MD, Faculty Advisor

Dr. Steer received his B.A. in Physiology and Chemistry and M.D. at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. Dr. Steer accepted a Hepatology Fellowship at the NIH in the Section on Diseases of the Liver and remained on staff at the NIH as an Expert in his field for an additional 10 years. In 1989, Dr. Steer joined the University of Minnesota as a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Genetics and Cell Development.
