"I would encourage all pre-medical students to take advantage of the opportunity to volunteer abroad. Volunteering abroad really puts global health issues into perspective and promotes intercultural awareness. It is truly an amazing experience that will change the way you think about medicine." - Erin Broberg, Perú volunteer
In 2008, members of MML spent a month volunteering in a small clinic in the Chorrillos district of Lima. In obstetrics and family planning, volunteers administered injections, examined patients during pre-natal visits, utilized fetal dopplers, and attended several births. In primary care, volunteers performed patient interviews, took vitals, performed injections and sutured wounds. Volunteers also learned about the Peruvian healthcare system and local epidemics such as HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
